Chelsea News – Didier Drogba not for sale
Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea have made it clear to the rest that their most prized possession, the Ivorian Striker, Didier Drogba is not on the market and anyone having aspirations to sign him should forget about it.
Chelsea won the Premier league and the FA Cup last season; Drogba was at the forefront of their success throughout. He was recently linked strongly with a big money move to the cash rich Manchester City, but still there was nothing official and even City did play down the rumour. Chelsea though is not ready to take any chances and have issued hands off warning to one and all.
Earlier Drogba’s agent, Thierno Seydi in an interview had said that the Ivorian may be on his way out; he said that negotiations with Manchester City were already underway. However Manchester City were quick to deny having approached the striker and now it seems like the matter may die down.
A Chelsea spokesman said that whatever is said regarding the deal with Manchester City is baseless, in simple words he is not for sale so there is no question of discussing it any further.
Drogba’s agent Seydi is believed to have been talking to various big names in Europe for a move for Drogba, but Chelsea have made it clear that he remains an integral part of their setup and they will take no offers for him.
Drogba was in great goal scoring form for the blues last season; he netted 29 times beating his closest rival Rooney for the golden boot, and also guided his team to a historic first ever double.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has also struck a good tune with the front man and says that he understands his style of play, and when he makes the blue prints of his plans for any match, the 32 year old is always at the centre of his offensive plans.
Ivory Coast Captain Drogba, has scored a total of 84 goals since arriving at Stamford Bridge. He was signed in 2004 for a sum of 24 million pounds from the French club Marseille.
Manchester City on the other hand said that even though they have been quite active in the market, they have never tried to approach a player who is not for sale. City have already spent an amount of 60 million pounds during this transfer window season and attained the services of Spanish world cup winner David Silva from Valencia, Yaya Toure from Barcelona, and Jerome Boateng.
Manchester City spokesman said that they have had no contact with Drogba, and the rumours or claims made by Drogba’s agent have no truth to them.
Earlier Seydi (Drogba’s agent) while speaking at a radio station in London had said that Drogba is now 32 and has to give more priority to the financial side of the game. He added that he has not spoken to any club but Manchester City. However, he did say that the African striker is happy at Chelsea and there are no formal plans for him to leave right now.
Meanwhile Chelsea have a slight injury worry, their number one man between the posts, Petr Cech pulled out from training after slight injury. It was believed to be a calf problem, the injury is not expected to be that serious but Cech has had some problems since last season. The full extent of his injury will only be known once the results of the scan come back.
Other than that Chelsea look all set to begin the defence of their title, the League as usual will be kicked off by the curtain raiser known as the community shield, where they will take on Manchester United.
