Chelsea Planning On Getting Cozy With Cahill In January
Sources revealed that Champions Chelsea have made enquiries about Gary Cahill, the Bolton Wanderers centre back. He is also in demand by London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur but Carlo Ancelotti is determined to land the defender in the upcoming January
transfer window.
The Blues are having to do without captain John Terry, who is out with a back injury until the end of March. He has been told to rest, which is the only cure for the back problem, which is why he cannot make an early comeback.
It wouldn’t have been that bad if Ricardo Carvalho was still with the Blues, however the Portuguese defender followed his fellow countryman Jose Mourinho to Real Madrid over the summer and Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti chose not to replace the central defender.
This has affected Chelsea’s recent performances; the Blues lost three out of four of their most recent Premier League fixtures. Their last match against Newcastle at St James Park ended in a draw, which saw Ancelotti’s side give up their lead at the top
of the Premier League table.
Reports have now revealed that Cahill is the number one target for the Blues in the January transfer window. The Bolton defender has been very impressive over this past month and has even scored five goals in 29 appearances.
He was essential in making sure Owen Coyle’s side avoided relegation last season and was rumored to be in contention for the England squad for the World Cup. Unfortunately, an arm injury ruled him out for most of the season, because of which he couldn’t
feature in the competition in South Africa.
Since then he was given his first England cap against Bulgaria this September, which increased his buyout clause up to £17.5 million. The player is valuable to Bolton, but Phil Gartside, the Bolton chairman, admitted the club would be looking to sell some
players in January.
However, the Blues will face tough competition for the player, especially from Arsenal. Even though Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger purchased two centre backs this summer, Sebastien Squillaci and Laurent Koscielny, he is thought to be looking to add more depth
to the back four.
