Chelsea – Probable starting line-up for the season 2011/2012 (Part 1)
Chelsea looked to be very strong as the 2010/2011 season started in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. The London club were defending their Premier League title and they were the favourites of winning the title for the second time in a row. Their first few matches showed how motivated
they were and after scoring fifteen goals in the first three games, Chelsea showed they were in it to win it.
Carlo Ancelotti tried to keep the great form intact as UEFA Champions League, the League Cup and the FA Cup also came in. There were some injury concerns for the North London club and that is when Chelsea saw their downfall.
The Italian coach simply saw that his squad did not have enough depth to win a single title. However, Ancelotti kept on trying to win at least a single trophy during the season. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 man failed to bring any silverware to the club and he was sacked
at the end of the season; despite helping his team finish second in the Premier League.
Carlo Ancelotti played his strongest side for most of the season. His line-up was mostly predicted by all the experts around the world because he had his favourites.
The first choice goalkeeper was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837. Cech was simply phenomenal throughout the season and there was no reason for Ancelotti to replace him. He is definitely one of the best goalkeepers in the English Premier League and Ancelotti made sure that he makes
good use of him.
The right back was Ivanovic; however, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 partnered Ivanovic in the centre back role for most of the season.
With Ivanovic playing in the centre back role, Paulo Ferreira used to play as a right wing back. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ferreira-c13712 was not even close to what Ivanovic brought to the team and Ancelotti definitely needed someone to replace him or he needed someone to play in the centre
back position so that Ivanovic can shift back to the right back position. That particular centre back came during the January transfer window when David Luiz was signed from Benfica.
In January http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-Ferreira-c29445. This way the Chelsea defence improved with all the four players capable of defending well.
The holding midfield role was given to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523 and Flourent Malouda were mostly
given the left centre midfield task. However, with Malouda out, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuri-Zhirkov-c37683 played in that position.
The right attacking midfield position was given to either http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294 but they failed miserably as they could not deliver from the position they were not used to of playing in.
