Chelsea assistant manager Michael Emenalo believes new formation has strengthened the Blues
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s assistant manager Michael Emenalo believes that manager Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to revert back to a 4-4-2 formation has helped the Blues to get back into the title race for the Premiere League.
Ancelotti played with a traditional 4-3-3 formation since the start of the season. After a poor show in the year ending 2010, which saw Chelsea down from top place to fourth place in the league table, the Italian made a drastic change to his strategy.
Emenalo revealed that the new strategy has worked for his team and believes the results can also justify it. The Blues have picked up three consecutive league wins and have been unbeaten in their last seven games since deploying the new tactics.
“Carlo looked over the situation with the players we have and at what was lacking, and in his past when he has been in these situations, he decided the best way to attack this situation was to get a very good defensive base from which to work,” Emenalo said.
The new formation has been adapted to fit in the new £ 50 million signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786.
The Nigerian believes that the 4-4-2 setup provides more balance to the defence which was not present in the 4-3-3 formation that can be blamed for Chelsea’s downfall in the season. He added that their attacking fullbacks are fully adaptable to this change and it will strengthen the team.
The 45-year-old went on to praise Ancelotti and said:
“The experience of the manager has helped tremendously because we've been able to come through and look strong again.”
Emenalo insisted that the success under the new formation does not mean that Chelsea have discarded the 4-3-3 setup completely. He believes that the 4-3-3 allows them to play better football because it helps them to control possession better and build-up easily.
Emenalo went on to praise http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 saying that Chelsea missed him badly in his three month injury lay-off towards the end of 2010. He feels that Lampard creates 40 percent of the Chelsea goals and provides the team with both attacking and defensive cover.
