Chelsea assistant manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo not bitter about West Brom sacking
Roberto Di Matteo, the new assistant manager at Chelsea under new boss Andre Villas-Boas, revealed he was starting to see how being sacked as the West Brom manager had been a good thing for him. Despite leading West Brom out of the Championship to the Premier
League, Di Matteo was sacked in the middle of the season for unknown reasons.
While Di Matteo admitted he was shocked at the decision of the club to relieve him of his duties, since he considered himself having done an excellent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, he did bore no ill will to the club. The former West Brom manager revealed it had actually been a
blessing in disguise since he was now assistant manager at Stamford Bridge.
When he took over the manager’s position at the London side, Villas-Boas’ first task was to assemble his coaching team. The former FC Porto manager called the then unemployed Di Matteo for the position of the assistant manager, with the Italian jumping at
the opportunity of retuning to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. Di Matteo played for the Blues in 1996 until 2002 as a midfielder.
Di Matteo said while speaking to reporters:
“I'm quite happy that I left because I would not have otherwise had the chance to come here [to Chelsea], so life somehow always turns out well.”
The Chelsea assistant manager continued:
"I did very well at West Brom considering what our target was at the time. The footballing industry recognised that and I guess that is one of the reasons I am sitting here today.”
In his first season managing West Brom in the Premier League, he led the club to a fairly decent start with seven points in five games, which was the clubs best start to a Premier League season. The highlight of his career was definitely the win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429
at Emirates Stadium, shortly after which he was named the Premier League Manager of the Month for September 2010.
However, a poor run of form saw Di Matteo fall out of favour with the club’s management and a 3-0 loss to Manchester City in February saw the Italian sacked with immediate effect. Everyone was surprised, including Di Matteo himself but he has since then
realized he was destined for bigger and better things – at Chelsea.
He has gotten off to a brilliant start with Villas-Boas, with the Blues having had an extremely successful pre-season. Di Matteo revealed he enjoyed perfect understanding with the Chelsea manager and expected their relationship to benefit the club. He was
full of praise for the 33-year-old Portuguese manager, who is looking to prove himself in the Premier League after success with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186.
Di Matteo said:
“We understood each other straightaway, and it's been a very natural relationship. Our football ideologies were the same and it is something that we have not had to work on. It feels like we have known each other for 30 years.”
