UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea have reportedly re-entered the race for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857.
The Blues were thought to have dropped out of the race to sign Luka Modric, apparently conceding the player to Real Madrid. However, it seems Chelsea have jumped right back into the transfer saga for the Croatia international.
Chelsea were interested in signing the 26-year-old in the last summer transfer window when they had brought in former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 manager Andre Villas-Boas. The Portuguese manager was determined to sign Modric and Chelsea reportedly made at least three bids
for him.
Unfortunately for the Blues, all their bids for Modric were rejected by the Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy and then manager Harry Redknapp. Their last bid was reported to be worth around 40 million pounds, which was also rejected as quickly by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879
Levy as it was submitted by Chelsea.
Modric was known to want a transfer to Chelsea, with the Croatian midfielder admitting he wanted to play Champions League football. He even went as far as handing in a transfer request, which was not accepted by the club.
The failure of acquire Modric last season seem to have put http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo had a different vision for the club and wanted to bring in other players at Stamford
Bridge.
This led to reports linking Manchester United and Real Madrid with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international and Chelsea were ruled out of the equation. Under Jose Mourinho, the La Liga giants are keen to bring in the former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder.
While the acquisition of Modric was assumed to be smooth sailing for Real Madrid, the return of Chelsea means they might end up losing out on the player after all, especially since the Blues will undoubtedly offer a better price for the Croatia international.
Modric may not be a goal-scoring midfielder, but his strengths like elsewhere. The playmaker can play equally impressive with both feet and from a central position can control the game well. One of his many qualities include the ability to take up the role
of a defensive midfielder when need be.
