Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti refuses to comment on refereeing decisions
Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti insisted he would not complain about the referee’s decision if the match did not end in his favour unlike rivals’ Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson. While the Chelsea players were furious with the referee’s failure to
award them a penalty in the closing minutes of the first leg of Champions League quarterfinals against United, Ancelotti remained indifferent.
While the penalty would have definitely taken a lot of pressure off the Blues going into the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal at Old Trafford, the Italian boss was largely impassive. He said while speaking to reporters, “I'll never do this.
UEFA will take a decision on the referee's performance. That's it. I don't want to be involved more in this discussion.”
Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney’s goal gave his side a crucial away goal at Stamford Bridge, which means the Premier League leaders now have to keep a clean sheet at home to make it to the semi finals of the European competition. The Blues on the
other hand, will have to score two or more goals to make it past Sir Alex Ferguson’s team to the next stage of the Champions League.
The UEFA Champions League is the only trophy the Blues are competing for this season, having been eliminated from the Carling Cup and FA Cup earlier on in the season. Their poor form ensured they gave up their lead at the top of the English Premier League
and are currently at fourth place on the table, ten points behind Manchester United.
If the Blues fail to make it past Manchester United in their quest for the coveted Champions League, this will be the first season they end up trophy less under Roman Abramovich. Ever since the Russian billionaire took over the London club they have managed
to win at least one trophy, even if it was the Carling Cup or the Community Shield. This season looks to be different though.
Ancelotti commented on Ferguson’s complains against the referee after his defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at Stamford Bridge earlier this season in the Premier League. He said, “Maybe two weeks ago he (Ferguson) was complaining about the referee's decisions, but this
week he was happy. I said to him after the game that now he doesn't have to complain about this. He was laughing.”
The Italian boss denied Chelsea skipper John Terry’s claims that the world was against them, he continued, “We don't have to think that everyone is against Chelsea. We have to think that we were not lucky in the past about the decisions, and we hope that
in the future things will change. We ask just to have respect and, when the decision is clear, you have to take a decision.”
