Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he is confident midfielder Frank Lampard will still be at Stamford Bridge next season despite his recent row with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international.
While the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss admitted he expected Lampard to remain with the London club, Villas-Boas claimed he could not promise anything. After Chelsea’s poor form and Villas-Boas’ decision to leave out Lampard in important fixtures, the 33-year-old
has been linked with a move away.
It is believed that while Lampard may not necessarily want a move away, he could be forced to leave in the summer transfer window if Villas-Boas decides they do not require the services of the English midfielder. The manager however, denied the rumours.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“I hope so. It does not depend on me. It depends on three parts - I want him, the person wants to stay and the club wants him.”
According to Villas-Boas keeping http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 at the club was not his decision to make and that it would all be decided by higher authorities when the time came. Meanwhile, Lampard has done well to make his mark on Chelsea football club.
When he scored his 12th goal of the season for the Blues, Lampard not only established himself as the highest goal scorer for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 but also put his name down in history by scoring the 150th Premier League goal of his career, 125th
for the Blues, setting a new record.
He revealed:
“Frank goes on and on breaking the club's records and that is important for him. I congratulate him for that.”
The Portuguese manager revealed the reasons why Lampard had been left out of the squad on various occasions. It was because there was growing competition within the squad and it was because of this that Lampard found himself on the bench and not because
of a personal grudge.
Villas-Boas continued:
“The only difference this year from the years before is that we have more competition in midfield and things become more difficult for everybody.
But Frank is now in the top five of players most used so he is up there with the best.”
