Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he believes English Premier League rivals Arsenal can still triumph over AC Milan in their return leg in the UEFA Champions League after a 4-0 defeat.
The Portuguese manager said he believed Arsenal were capable to making a comeback against the Serie A giants in the round of 16 of the European competition. While Villas-Boas retains confidence in Arsene Wenger’s men history is against them since no side
has ever been able to overcome a 4-0 deficit in the Champions League.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted in an interview after the defeat that his side had been knocked out of the European competition. The French manager believed there was no possibility his side could make a return from the 4-0 thrashing AC Milan had delivered
at the San Siro in the first leg of the fixture.
However, Villas-Boas remained confident in Arsenal’s chances of making the impossible possible and qualifying for the next round of the competition. He revealed the Gunners needed to score early on in the next fixture at the Emirates Stadium to ensure a
chance of victory against the Italian side.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“Impossibles in football happen when you least expect them and I think the emotions that are played in the English game can have an impact on Arsenal and on the running of that game.
If they score early in the game, they could go all the way.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss mentioned his former side’s fight to the Europa League title and how Villarreal had almost turned things around in the second leg. The Spanish side won the second leg 3-2, almost overturning a 5-1 loss in the first leg.
He revealed:
“Within 15 minutes, we were already losing 1-0 and could have been losing two or three. In the end we got lucky, we lost 3-2. But that's how quickly the game can change.”
Arsenal are currently at fourth place on the Premier League, level on points with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 out of the European competition just as he refused to rule out his own side, who recently lost 2-0
to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 in the Premier League, which has been labelled as their worst performance in the season so far.
Villas-Boas continued:
“Regarding Arsenal, I'm nobody to make an assessment.
I would just maybe perpetuate Arsene Wenger's words because it's maybe more or less what I feel about our last game, which is the acknowledgement that it was their worst game of the season.”
