http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that he still believes his side can challenge for the English Premier League title after securing a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Brazilian midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 found the back of the net in the 89th minute to give his side a much needed
win.
After a disappointing loss to Aston Villa over the weekend, the London side will be extremely pleased with the narrow victory. It was positive results like this that had Villas-Boas convinced the Blues would be contention for the title if they managed to
remain consistent.
Villas-Boas said in an interview:
“This team is focused on getting the consistency in terms of getting the results.
If we go on a winning streak of five or six games, which we are capable of, we can be fighting for this league.”
“It doesn't mean we are still in it because first, to still be in the race, we need to find the consistency that we haven't got yet.”
According to Villas-Boas, it was not important to be top of the table at this point in the season as long as Chelsea were providing consistent results. So far the Blues have been managing draws and narrow wins and the Portuguese manager wanted that to change.
As for the goal celebration with Villas-Boas after Ramires scored, the manager denied he had asked the players to celebrate with him and the coaching staff. He insisted it was a spur of the moment thing, unlike what the media was making it out to be.
After Ramires scored the opener, at least eight Chelsea player’s rushed to Villas-Boas to celebrate the goal. However, Villas-Boas denied having told the players to do so. He revealed it was something the players had thought of themselves.
He said:
“It's just part of them showing the unity of the team and what the team have been doing.
I think after the recent happenings in the home fixtures, where we lost points, it is normal for stories to come out, speculation about untrue things going on.”
