Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas confirms Nicolas Anelka and Alex’s transfer requests accepted
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas confirmed that striker Nicolas Anelka and defender Alex were on their way out from Stamford Bridge. The London club has already apparently accepted transfer requests from them, which means they will be out in the upcoming
January transfer window.
This would definitely explain the duo’s absence from the 3-0 victory over Newcastle United over the last weekend. Reports have also suggested that they have been told to train with the reserve team after being informed that they were no longer in the manager’s
plans.
Villas-Boas confirmed in an interview after the win over Newcastle United that the transfer requests had indeed been accepted, he also admitted the pair were no longer training with the first team and were instead making preparations to leave.
Villas-Boas said in an interview:
“The conversation was fair and very, very frontal and direct with the players. The players have shown their interest in leaving the club; they have put in transfer requests for quite some time.”
The Chelsea manager had good things to say about both the players, whom he felt had played a big role for the Blues in the past. However, he revealed he had reviewed the existing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 squad and did not feel they needed Anelka and Alex anymore.
He revealed:
“They are top, top professionals - their professionalism and integrity is never in question - but at this moment and with the recent from and results, we have decided just to try to get the group together, and we have decided to assign different training
times for Anelka and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752.”
Despite confessing the players had handed in a transfer request, Villas-Boas refused to comment on whether or not they would be leaving in the January transfer window. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 manager revealed the transfer requests were no guarantee of an exit.
Villas-Boas confirmed:
“The transfer request was accepted - it doesn't mean that it will happen, and if it doesn't happen, the players will return to full training.”
Alex has been with the Blues since 2004, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786 joined the Blues in 2008 from Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.
