Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas confirms contract talks with goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas denied rumours that the Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech was nearing a Stamford Bridge exit and instead revealed that the clubs were in talks with him regarding a new contract, which would keep him at the London club until his
retirement.
The 29-year-old will be out of contract at the end of next season, but it seems the Portuguese manager is determined to retain the services of Petr Cech. The Czech International who joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 in 2004, could very well go on to play at the club for a
century with his extended contract.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“There are false stories about Petr Cech leaving the club. We are trying to reach an agreement with Petr.”
According to the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss, the club was in informal talks with Cech regarding a possible contract extension. Villas-Boas  confirmed that the club were desperate to keep the number one stopper and would be willing to do anything to retain his
services past his initial contract.
He added:
“He knows that we are trying to reach an agreement with him and that we are interested in renewing his contract.”
Villas-Boas dismissed claims that Cech was not fit enough to retain the position of the number one at the club any longer. It is true that Cech has not been at his best, having suffered various injuries over the seasons, but Villas-Boas remained confident
he could maintain his position at the club.
Villas-Boas said:
“The goalkeeper position is very, very specific.”
Cech arrived from Ligue 1 side Rennes in 2004 and was quickly established as the first choice keeper after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlo-Cudicini-c8340 suffered a pre-season injury. He has so far made 326 appearances in all competitions for the Blues over the years and remains one of
their most successful goal keepers to date.
However, if he was to be replaced, the Blues have youngster Thibaut Courtois lined up. The 19-year-old is currently on loan to Atletico Madrid, but Villas-Boas did not want to recall him just yet.
He revealed:
“Regarding Courtois, we have to make a decision. We won't recall him in January, for sure. At the end of the season, we have to decide.”
