Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas revealed he was certain La Liga giants Barcelona’s dominance in European football would come to an end sooner than later. The Catalan side have been dominating domestically and in Europe as far back as anyone can remember,
however, the new Blues boss did not believe they would be able to continue their supremacy in the upcoming years.
In the last five years, Barcelona have gone on to win the coveted UEFA Champions League an amazing three times. This makes them one of the most feared teams in European football and many top clubs have gone out to them in the European competition. The 34-year-old
Portuguese manager praised the system that had made Barcelona unbeatable, but admitted it was only a matter of time before they were made to surrender their untouchable status.
Villas-Boas said in an interview:
“These past years of Barcelona's success has collided with a multitude of events that has provided this team with the ability to play so well.”
With an excellent youth academy, that does not fail to provide fresh talent every year, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 are every club’s dream. Unlike other top sides, the La Liga side have to look no further than their own youth academy for reinforcements in the transfer windows.
The system seems perfect, but Villas-Boas was certain the Spanish side would have a patch where the inability to produce players would eventually lead to their downfall.
He continued:
“These past four or five years of Barcelona will be, for sure, the exception. Eventually, there are years of better talent (elsewhere) and years of drought.”
As for his side’s chances of defeating Barcelona, if drawn against them in the Champions League, Villas-Boas remained confident. However, the young Portuguese manager refused to be pressurized by the apparent demand by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to deliver
the European Cup. He admitted he was under a certain pressure to win trophies, but claimed that he would not let it affect him in a negative way.
The Blues boss revealed:
“The trophy cabinet is something that is more visible.
The way you achieve it is something very, very valuable and respectful and, for sure, I respect it more than the rest.
But what is expected of me is to win trophies, particularly at a massive club like this one.”
Having started younger than most people in his profession, Villas-Boas intends to end his managerial career in the next 15 years. He revealed he was looking forward to delivering silverware to the Blues and any other club he managed in the future, since
it was a more visible achievement. Villas-Boas will lead his side against KRC Genk in the group stages of the Champions League tonight at Stamford Bridge.
Villas-Boas concluded:
“I want to have something that I can be proud of and I will try to get it.”
