Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas pleased with start, reflects on changed Premier League
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Andre Villas-Boas revealed he believed his side had made a decent start to the new English Premier League campaign and felt the English League had become highly competitive as compared to the previous seasons. Having worked at Chelsea under
Jose Mourinho, Villas-Boas is aware at how things were in English football, with two or three sides dominating the Premier League table.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss took charge of the London club in the summer, after Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti was sacked and has had to face a tougher challenge than his predecessors. However, Villas-Boas has managed to do well; managing five wins in the
opening seven fixtures. With three points behind league leaders Manchester United and Manchester City, he is aware his side cannot afford to drop any more points.
Villas-Boas said on the club’s official website:
“I think things have been going okay. We had a good start up to the Old Trafford game where we had a good performance but were unlucky with the result.”
Chelsea’s only loss this season has come against Manchester United, the fixture at Old Trafford which ended 3-1 to the home side. Despite the deceiving score line, the Blues were the better side and lost due to some poor finishing and bad refereeing. Villas-Boas
admitted his side had difficulty recovering at half-time but had done well to maintain the score line.
He continued:
“We are doing nothing else than what we need to do. We are expected to win every game and that's the challenge that we have. Some results have gone our way a little bit better and others haven't.”
The 33-year-old Portuguese manager revealed things had changed since a few years ago when it was just the “Big Four” competing for the title. The title race has now expanded to include various other sides, which have shown a great improvement over the past
few seasons. The likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Stoke City and Newcastle United have all shown great improvement this season.
The Portuguese manager revealed:
“The main difference from a couple of years ago is that there are much more teams competing for the Premier League title, and more teams are also competing for the Champions League spots.”
According to Villas-Boas, money had a big role to play in a club’s development. It was because of money that most of the clubs had improved overall. Like the other clubs, the Blues also seem to be on the way up. Apart from the money invested by Russian billionaire
Roman Abramovich, Chelsea have made some noticeable changes this summer in terms of staff and the structure of the club, which Villas-Boas feels will help the club in the long term.
Villas-Boas said:
“The club has evolved naturally to an even more powerful club, a more powerful brand commercially, and is on the right track.”
