Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas refuses to blame poor defensive after Arsenal defeat
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 that led to Arsenal’s fourth goal and eventual victory
over their London rivals at Stamford Bridge.
With the support of Villas-Boas, Terry led his team out against Arsenal after allegations of racial abuse just a week before against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 internationals efforts seemed to go to waste in the end as the
visitors left with all three points in a 5-3 win.
After taking the lead, Terry did seem a little distracted and his partnership at the back with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Branislav-Ivanovic-c7994 was admittedly a little shaky. However, according to the Portuguese manager, the FA investigation had nothing to do with the performance of
the Blues on Saturday.
Villas-Boas said in an interview after the match:
“Has the situation affected John? No, not at all. It hasn't distracted him at all, I don't think.
For me, it was never a situation. It's a misunderstanding. It's an FA investigation, so let them investigate.”
The 34-year-old manager refused to read too much into the defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and the causes for it, claiming it was just a defeat. While he admitted it was an important defeat, he did not think it necessary to call it anything else.
The Portuguese manager continued:
“This is just defeat for a team, a very important defeat and nothing else.”
Villas-Boas also did not feel his side had lacked defensively in the clash against the Gunners, claiming the two goals that gave Arsenal their win were circumstantial. Terry’s slip and the Blues conceding a goal on the counter attack did not reflect poorly
on their defensively ability at all, said the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss.
He added:
“You have to take two goals out of the situation because one was caused by a slip from our player that left http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 through on goal, and the other came when we were chasing an equaliser so it's nothing to do with defensive organisation.”
All in all, Villas Boas felt his side had been unlucky to lost at home against Arsenal when they desperately needed all three points to keep pace with the two Manchester sides. While the Blues lament on their form in the Premier League, they will have to
prepare for their trip to KRC Genk in the UEFA Champions League.
Villas-Boas concluded:
“We were punished by an unlucky situation. Luck didn't want anything with us today.”
