Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas surprised at criticism after Manchester United loss
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas felt it was strange that his side had been subjected to criticism for their attacking football at Old Trafford against Manchester United. The Blues lost the English Premier League fixture against the Red Devils 3-1 last
weekend, but were clearly the better side as they put on a brilliant display of attacking football.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 manager not only lost his first game as the Chelsea manager, but the defeat at Old Trafford brought an end to his 17 month unbeaten run in League football. Villas-Boas was frustrated with the referees’ decisions during the game, which
included allowing two offside goals and awarding a soft penalty, and the fact that his side were called out for having a “naive defence.”
With Chelsea having previously suffered criticism for playing a defensive game since the Jose Mourinho era, Villas-Boas admitted he was surprised that his attacking side was being scrutinized. The 33-year-old manager did not think the critics had any right
to decide what entertaining football was and said he would be happy as long as the fans were satisfied.
Villas Boas said in an interview:
“I am surprised that people take the view to criticise us for being naive and stupid at Old Trafford. What we did was defend the essence of British football and football well played.
I find it strange that people related to football don't know where to position themselves regarding what is best for football and what is best for fans, because fans are the most important part of our game.”
Despite the loss, Villas-Boas felt his side had put on a highly entertaining performance and had emerged the better side by the end of it. Even with the 3-1 lead, Manchester United were having a tough time containing the constant stream of Chelsea’s attack.
There is no doubt that the Red Devils boss Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson was pleased with the sound of the full time whistle.
He revealed:
“It was an entertaining game for the world. Pity we didn't come away with the three points but I think we were superior during the 90 minutes.”
However, the Blues manager admitted the result did matter and his side had failed to get a desirable one last weekend. The loss at Manchester United leaves http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 five points behind the league leaders early on in the season, putting them under further pressure
to improve their form and win their upcoming fixtures. Chelsea take on newly promoted Swansea City today.
Villas-Boas continued:
“In the end, it's the victory that counts. We missed the victory.”
