English Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly preparing a bid money move for FC Porto left-back Alvaro Pereira. The 25-year-old is amongst the many Porto players to be linked with a move to the London club in a reunion with former boss Andre Villas-Boas.
The Portuguese manager took charge of the Blues earlier this summer and with the summer transfer window drawing to a close, he is still looking to strengthen his squad.
So far Villas-Boas has brought in a host of young talent, including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oriol-c28659 Romeu, Thibaut Courtois and Juan Mata. With some of these players expected to be loaned out for regular first team football, Villas-Boas is still in the market for more
players. He currently has his eyes set on Pereira, who will be brought in to strengthen the back four.
With time running out, the Blues are expected to start off with making a bid of €20 million for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 international, even though they are aware his release clause is fixed at €30 million. If the move does go through then Pereira will be the first player
Villas-Boas signs from his former side, despite wanting to bring in other players earlier on.
The Portuguese manager was linked with bringing in a host of players, including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hulk-c16436 and Joao Moutinho. However, the two attacking players were far too expensive for the Blues and despite intense speculation the moves did not go through.
While there is still a chance that the Blues may pursue Moutinho, that depends entirely on their ability to land Tottenham Hotspur midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857.
The Blues have been attempting to land the Croatian midfielder since the beginning of the summer transfer window, but have so far been unsuccessful. They made two bids for Modric, which were rejected. However, they have not yet given up and are expected
to make a third bid for him which could include a player in an exchange deal.
Pereira signed with FC Porto in the summer of 2009 for a fee of €4.8 million on a long-term deal from CFR Club. The full-back has been consistent in his two seasons at the club and has made 49 appearances in the League, and has scored one goal. Negotiations
are continuing between the two clubs and the matter is expected to be resolved in the upcoming days.
