Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas did not seem too concerned about the fact that three of his strikers were going to run out of contract at the end of the current season. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786 and Salomon Kalou will all be out of contract in the summer
and the Blues stand a chance of losing them on a free transfer.
While Drogba, the 33-year-old Ivory Coast international, has made his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge clear, he has yet to reach an agreement with the club. Talks are apparently still in the process, the result of which is expected shortly.
Anelka on the other hand, is expected to leave the London club once his current deal expires. The Frenchman it seems has not managed to impress Villas-Boas, which is why the Portuguese manager has not offered him a new deal which would see him continue on
at the club past the summer.
Last but not least, Kalou, Drogba’s fellow countryman, has also reportedly been offered a contract extension by the Chelsea manager. However, like Drogba, Kalou has not yet decided on his future and talks over his contract continue on.
Even though time is said to be running out for the Blues to secure at least two of the three strikers before the summer, Villas-Boas was not worried. Having been through a similar situation at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186, he revealed he expected the situation to resolve itself
soon.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“I don't think so, it happens all the time.
The most important thing is for the club to try to defend its interests. We know these players are of higher importance.
That's why the offers are on the table, apart from with Anelka, end of story. We will try to get them to reach an agreement.”
Having ruled out Anelka, Villas-Boas confirmed talks were ongoing with Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou, with the club trying to retain both players. The former FC Porto manager refused to be rushed by the apparent lack of time and claimed there was plenty
of time to tie any loose ends.
Villas-Boas continued:
“That's why the talks are ongoing. We still have plenty of time.”
