Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas warns Blues to improve or face consequences

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas urged his side to improve their form if they wished to remain in the UEFA Champions League after being dumped out of the Carling Cup by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. The Blues lose to Kenny Dalglish’s side a second time, this time ending their
hopes of earning an early trophy in the 2011-2012 season.
The loss to Liverpool was more than just a defeat as it exposed the downward spiral the Blues are currently going through. Chelsea have lost three out of their last four games, a very poor record for a side apparently competing for silverware.
They have also not maintained a home record, losing mostly at Stamford Bridge this season. They host Newcastle United over the weekend in the English Premier League and then http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 in the season defining game of the Champions League.
Villas-Boas said in an interview:
“The Champions League is a competition that is life and death and this standard won't be enough. We will need to up the tempo and play that game with the ultimate desire.”
If the Blues are unable to secure a win against Valencia, they will be putting an end to their European dreams for yet another season. This is something that will not settle in too well with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich who is determined to win the coveted
European trophy.
He revealed:
“For our Premier League challenge to be alive, we need to make the most of our December fixtures.
If we are able to do that, we can get it back on track, not that we can't get back on track after. If we do well in December it will have a major impact”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss was certain the Blues could return to winning ways and once again be considered title contenders if they managed to maintain a decent record in the tough December period. He was certain good results in December would ensure consistency
later on in the season.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss concluded:
“The FA Cup and Champions League come into play next year, so we don't know what will happen in March and April.”
