Andre Villas-Boas, the Chelsea manager, has revealed the Blues could give captain John Terry time off from football so he can clear his name in the allegations of racist abuse.
Despite being accused of racism, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Anton-Ferdinand-c6260 accused Terry of racially abusing him at Loftus Road.
The 31-year-old has gone on to deny the accusation but has suffered jeers and taunts from opposition supporters as the Blues faced QPR once again the FA Cup fixture. Terry is scheduled to appear at the Westminster Magistrates Court on the 1st
of February regarding the incident and a decision is expected.
Villas-Boas revealed that if the magistrates trial was to take place during the current season he would consider giving Terry time off to deal with it. He revealed it was important for both the club and the player but said he would play Terry as long as
he did not let his off field activities affect those on the pitch.
Villas-Boas said while speaking to reporters:
“You have seen with the off-field events, we haven't stopped using John, and his level of performance has not been affected.
If that continues to be the case, we will continue to do it.”
According to the Portuguese manager the Chelsea skipper had what it took to handle the situation and emerge from it stronger than before. He revealed Terry had handled himself rather well in the1-0 win over QPR and if continued to perform well, it would
not be a problem for the club.
He continued:
“He is a player that has been through various situations, situations of stress and great, difficult atmospheres.
Bearing in mind the events that have happened in the past, he showed that this was just another game for him and he was just interested in football. He had an extremely good performance.”
The Blues have important fixtures coming up, after playing Swansea City on the 1st of February, Chelsea face Manchester United and Stamford Bridge over the weekend. The game will be a must win for the London side if they wish to close the gap
with second place Red Devils.
