Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti admits squad suffered from low confidence during slump
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti admitted he had faced problems with the Blues during the period they were underperforming in the English Premier League. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s worst slump in over 15 years saw the defending champions slip to fifth place on the Premier League
table and cast a doubt on their involvement in the title race.
However, the Italian manager revealed things had improved since then, especially with the 2-1 win over league leaders Manchester United at Stamford Bridge last week.
Ancelotti revealed how he kept his calm and had played down the crisis brewing at the Bridge as to not alarm the players. The Blues boss said things had changed since then and his side were better off now, having successfully made it past the terrible slump.
He said while speaking to reporters, “A lot of times in the past, I've said the atmosphere is good. Sometimes it wasn't really good because the players had more difficulties to train, with less confidence. Now the confidence has improved with the results.”
The 2-1 win over Manchester United was especially important in raising the spirits and Chelsea’s position in the table. Ancelotti’s side are now back in the top four, which means they will qualify for next season’s Champions League if they maintain this
position. With Manchester United having lost to Liverpool yesterday and Arsenal drawing their latest fixture, it gives the Blues to close the gap. However, the Blues can only do that with a win over Blackpool who they will play tonight.
The Chelsea boss was pleased with the important win and was certain it had given his side the much needed confidence to see them through the rest of the season. He revealed the effect of the win on the players, “The atmosphere is really good. The players
are training well with confidence and ability, so I have confidence in the future. When you win against United, it means you're good enough to play against stronger teams. So this result obviously improves your confidence.”
Ancelotti admitted the fixture against Liverpool was also a good chance to regain confidence for his side; however, the Blues lost that match 1-0. New arrivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809,
with the Blues favorites to win.
Ancelotti continued, “Everyone had confidence going into that Liverpool game, but we lost it and the confidence went down. If we were not able to win this game, it could have been a problem in the future.”
The Blues seem to have returned to winning ways and now have more to play for than just the Champions League. A Premier League and Champions League double looks to be within reach, however, it would be best if they took one match at a time. For now Ancelotti
and his men should focus on the upcoming fixture against Blackpool.
