Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti backs Fernando Torres to start firing soon
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has come to the defence of January acquisition Fernando Torres, claiming that the out-of-sorts striker will soon be back amongst the goals. Torres has failed to score since joining the Blues almost two months ago.
Chelsea signed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the final days of the January transfer window. The club spent a whopping 50 million pounds for the striker’s services. However, Torres has so far failed to live up to the hype surrounding his arrival at Stamford
Bridge.
The Spaniard endured a dismal debut for his new club, so much so that he was substituted after just 65 minutes on the pitch. He has shown glimpses of the brilliance he is capable of during Chelsea’s encounters against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League,
and more recently, against Manchester United in their Premier League encounter at Stamford Bridge earlier in the week.
Even though he is showing signs of returning to his deadly best, Torres has failed to find the back of the net for his new employers.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti is not worried though. The Italian believes it is only a matter of time before the striker breaks his duck. Defending Torres’ goal drought, Ancelotti said, “Torres didn't score but I don't ask my strikers to score. I ask them to play
for the team. Torres did a very good job with that. People judge him on the goals he scored but I have to look at different things about his performance.”
He added, "He worked for the team, put pressure on the defenders, moved well in front and worked hard.”
Torres has already stated that it will take him a while to come to terms with the playing style at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. He pleaded for patience, assuring the fans that he is settling in quickly at Stamford Bridge.
Torres said, “It's important to understand the style of football your team is playing, how you are involved in the system and everything. This always takes some time. I have confidence in myself, I have confidence in this team and I have tried to become
involved in everything this team is doing from the first day.”
With their recent win over Manchester United, Chelsea have moved up to fourth place in the League standings, 12 points behind the leaders.
