Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti believes Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres can play together
Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti, revealed he did not feel it would be a risk, playing strikers, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044, and, Fernando Torres together against London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, over the weekend in a must-win English Premier League clash.
With only four games remaining this season, the Blues have a chance to pressurize league leaders, Manchester United, by securing a win over the Spurs when they visit Stamford Bridge.
Since the £50 million arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 in the January transfer window, the Spaniard has featured alongside Drogba just three times in a possible 14 matches. Their failure to strike up a partnership caused Ancelotti to change the team’s formation
from his favourite 4-4-2 to the 4-3-3, which has seemed to suit the Blues better.
Ancelotti was confident the two star strikers could perform well together. While speaking to reporters he said, “When you have very good players, you've have to try to put them together. Maybe they can sacrifice something of their ability, of their skills,
but they can play together. If you are able to do this, I think it is good for the team, to get good results”.
The Italian continued, “The best solution would be to play 4-4-2 if they play together. I think that we don't have a problem to play 4-4-2, or, 4-3-3. The result doesn't depend on the shape that you use. The result depends on the motivation that the players
have, on the spirit that the players use on the pitch during the game”.
The change in formation has done wonders for the London side. It has undoubtedly strengthened the side, who are now out of their mid-season slump. The slump, described as their worst in over 15 years, saw Chelsea exit from the cup competitions and slide
out of the top four in the Premier League, which meant they would not have secured a place in next season’s Champions League.
However, since the change in formation most of the Chelsea players have rediscovered their form and are once again title contenders. They are currently six points behind Manchester United, who take on third place Arsenal next.
A win over fifth place Spurs will give the Blues an edge over Sir Alex Ferguson’s side, who are well on their way to collect their 19th title.
It has been rumoured that Ancelotti will be sacked at the end of the season, having failed to secure any silverware this season. However, the former AC Milan manager still might be able to save http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s season and his job if he manages to retain the Premier
League trophy.
While there is a slim chance of that happening, there is still a chance and if we’ve learnt anything from the past it’s that football is very unpredictable.
