Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti defends Fernando Torres after striker fails to make an impact against Tottenham Hotspur
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed he would be looking forward and not behind as he prepares his side to face league leaders Manchester United at Old Trafford over the weekend. The Italian manager has led his side to an incredible comeback over the past
few weeks and they once again find themselves in the title race, just three points behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
The Blues were extremely lucky this weekend as they welcomed London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge. They went on to win 2-1 against the Spurs because of two very controversial goals, scored by midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266.
Despite the win, which kept them in the title race, Ancelotti admitted he had not made the best decision in choosing the starting XI.
The Italian manager decided to start with Fernando Torres alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 in a 4-4-2 formation, which has not been too much of a success with the Blues. As predicted, the Spanish striker failed to make an impact against the Spurs and it was only
after he was taken off and Kalou brought on in his place that the Blues won the match.
Ancelotti admitted it was tough to choose the starting lineup with all the squad fully fit and available. He said while speaking to reporters, “To make a decision about the line-up, I have to forget the past. I have to look at the next training session.
It's important to have players in good form, in good condition. If we want to win there, we have to use intensity.”
However, he did not particularly feel the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker was to blame for the Blues lack of firepower in the London derby. The former AC Milan boss felt it was more the positioning of the striker than his lack of skills that hindered his progress
and ability to find the back of the net. Ancelotti claimed the striker had done well, giving a decent overall performance.
He continued, “I think that the problem was not the position of Fernando. The first 20 minutes were good, Fernando was involved. After that we had more difficulties to pass the ball to him. But his performance individually was good and Didier also sacrificed
a bit because he played a little bit behind him, but he played for the team.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 arrived at Stamford Bridge on the deadline day of the January transfer window for a record breaking fee of £50 million. However, he has failed to make a notable impact for the Blues since then and scored his first goal after 732-minutes against
West Ham United in the English Premier League. It remains to be seen if Ancelotti will start with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 striker against Manchester United this Sunday.
