Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti denies Roma link, intends to stay at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti, denied rumours that he would be making a Stamford Bridge exit in the summer to join Serie A side Roma. The Italian was spotted in Rome recently, which sparked talk of him taking charge of Roma next season.
After a highly disappointing season, which saw the Blues exit the Carling Cup and FA Cup competitions early on in the season and give up their spot at the top of the table, Ancelotti was linked with leaving the London club at the end of the season.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was thought to have started looking for replacements as soon as the Blues were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Premier League rivals Manchester United from the quarter-finals of the European competition.
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 coaches, Jose Mourinho, and, Guus Hiddink, were amongst the many big names linked with taking over the hot seat at Stamford Bridge. Marcello Lippi, Frank Rijkaard, Harry Redknapp and Pep Guardiola were all rumoured to being considered by the
Russian billionaire to replace Ancelotti.
The former AC Milan boss, on the other hand, was linked with taking over Roma, who sacked Claudio Ranieri mid-season. Vincenzo Montella is currently care-taker manager at the club and while he hasn’t done too bad since taking over, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 want Ancelotti to
take over next season.
Ancelotti has remained calm during speculation regarding his future and has remained focused on the Blues. His commitment has paid off as the Blues managed to close a 15 point gap to just 3 points in less than two months.
The Blues are currently at second place on the English Premier League table, just three points behind Manchester United. Chelsea will travel to Old Trafford on May 8, 2011, in a must-win fixture for both sides as they compete for the domestic title.
The Italian manager revealed he was focusing on leading the Blues to another Premier League title and intended to stay at the Bridge until his contract expired next season. He dismissed reports that he was in Rome to discuss a possible contract with Roma.
Ancelotti claimed he was contracted to the Blues until next season and intended to honour his contract. He said while speaking to reporters, “I still have a year of my contract with Chelsea and I'm happy in London”.
However, Ancelotti did not entirely rule out taking over Roma. During his football career, Ancelotti played for the Italian outfit for eight years and said he would like to return to the club later in his managerial career.
The Italian admitted he would like to manage Roma sometime in the future, he said, “I have expressed many times it is my wish to one day coach Roma - that has always been my desire. However, this doesn't mean that I will do it tomorrow”.
With just three games remaining this season, including the clash against Manchester United over the weekend, the Italian manager has just a little while left to save Chelsea’s season. A victory over the Red Devils will see Chelsea go to top of the table,
level on points but ahead on goal difference.
