Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti insisted his side were not obsessed with winning the coveted Champions League, but dreamt of claiming the European Cup since it was the one trophy they had not won. The Champions League draws were made yesterday and the Blues
were drawn with English Premier League rivals Manchester United.
While Chelsea drew with old foes Manchester United, London rivals Tottenham Hotspur were drawn with Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid, who are favorites to win that fixture. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 got a relatively easy fixture with Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan take on
German outfit Schalke.
The Italian manager revealed that he would not be looking at the quarter final against Manchester United as a chance to get revenge for the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow. Chelsea lost out to the Red Devils on penalties and missed out on winning their
first ever Champions League crown.
Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters, “It's not an obsession to win the Champions League - it's a dream, and I agree with Mourinho on that. We have to play a quarter-final and then we'll see if we deserve to be in the semi-final. Last year it was a
really bad moment, losing to Inter. Now it's not an obsession to win it, it's a dream.”
The Chelsea boss said his motive was not revenge as he was not in charge when the Blues lost out to United, he continued, “I don't have to have revenge against United - I was not there. For my players, I don't think it's a good motivation, revenge. It should
be fantastic motivation to look forward in the future.”
However, Ancelotti was certain revenge would serve as a motivation factor for his team. He said, “We have four games to reach the final in London. If Chelsea reached the final there, we'd have good revenge for 2008 - not against United.”
The winners from this fixture will take on either Inter Milan or Schalke, whoever qualifies to the next round, for a spot in the final being held at Wembley Stadium. Similarly, the winner from the Tottenham-Madrid match will face either Barcelona or Shakhtar.
If anything, Ancelotti can take comfort from the fact that Manchester United have not been able to register a win at Stamford Bridge in nine years. The Blues recently beat Sir Alex Ferguson’s side 2-1 in the English Premier League in a highly controversial
match.
The Manchester United boss did not take the loss to lightly and lashed out on the referee which earned him a five match touchline ban from the FA. The fact that the first leg is at Stamford Bridge could work very well for Chelsea, who could get a nice advantage
if they manage a win at home.
