Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti promises misfiring striker Fernando Torres will score this season
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has maintained his support for 27-year-old former Liverpool striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 and claimed in a recent interview that the Spaniard would score for the Blues before the current campaign ended.
Torres has not managed to find the back of the net for Chelsea since his £50-million move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 to Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window. It seems the Spaniard is not handling the pressure of the record-breaking transfer fee too well.
Having made 13 appearances for Chelsea in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, Torres has been unable to score. Although he did manage to put the ball in the back of the net against West Brom over the weekend, it was unfortunately called
offside.
Torres has had to put up with much criticism for his goal drought, but the Chelsea boss and his teammates have continued their support for the Spain international. The Italian manager has continued to show his support for the striker, starting with him instead
of Ivory Coast striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044.
That decision has backfired on one too many occasions and has arguably cost http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 the passage into the semi-finals of the Champions League, and probably, Ancelotti his job. However, the former AC Milan manager was confident the misfiring striker would
find his goal before the end of the season.
Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters, “He will score. He can score if he plays. It's very difficult to change the team that played so well against West Brom, not just for the result, not just for the performance. They did very well against West Bromwich.”
After the disappointing Champions League exit to Premier League leaders Manchester United, Ancelotti decided to give Drogba a start, with Torres on the bench. That decision paid off as Drogba scored the equalized, with the Blues going on to win the match
3-1.
The Italian revealed the training staff was working hard with Torres but he was not receiving any special attention. He continued, “We are working with him like we are with the other strikers. He has exercises to score - shooting, crossing - but nothing
different from the others.”
The Blues boss said, “I think he wants to score and he's not happy for this reason. I would like to see my players every time happy and with confidence. It's not a good moment for Fernando, but I want to do my best to support him.”
Ancelotti has yet to reveal who he will pick for the mid-week clash against Birmingham City, but it is likely he will start with Drogba and bring on Torres later on. The remaining six games in the Premier League are must-win fixtures for Chelsea if they
wish to end their season a high note.
