Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti urges Blues not to take Tottenham Hotspur lightly
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti urged his side to maintain their focus on the remaining four games in the English Premier League in hopes of retaining the Premier League title. The Blues are currently at second place on the Premier League table, six points
behind league leaders Manchester United and have to win their remaining fixtures if they wish to stand a chance to win back-to-back titles.
The Blues welcome Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge in a must-win fixture for both sides, with Chelsea fighting for the title and the Spurs aiming for a place in the top four. Ancelotti is aware anything less than a win for his side will mean the end
of their title hopes, resulting in a trophy less season, and ultimately his job at the London club.
The former AC Milan manager has had a highly disappointing season with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, having failed to lead them any silverware so far. This has led to speculation that the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is on the look-out for a replacement for Ancelotti. However,
the Italian still has four games to redeem himself and save the Blues season and his job.
While Ancelotti’s side are clearly the stronger side and favorites to win at the Bridge today, the Blues boss knows his side can’t be too careful at this stage of this season. The title has been won and lost during the last few games of the season and the
Italian has urged his side to focus on winning all the upcoming fixtures.
Ancelotti told his side not to take their London rivals lightly in the upcoming derby. He said while speaking to reporters, “We have to do our job and our job is to win against Tottenham. It will not be easy because Tottenham is a very good team, very strong.
But I think that we want to keep open the Premier League until the last minute.”
The Italian manager revealed it was as important to register a win over fifth place Tottenham Hotspur as it was over first place Manchester United. He insisted his side would fight until the very last minute to retain the title.
“Obviously, we have to beat Man United, we have to beat Tottenham. We want to fight until the last minute of this Premier League,” he added.
Chelsea overtook Arsenal, who are not in the best of forms currently, to claim second place and remain in the title race. However, Ancelotti has not written off the Gunners, claiming that the fight for a UEFA Champions League place would give them enough
motivation to improve their form and try and secure maximum points from their remaining games.
Ancelotti said he believed third place Arsenal would do their best in their remaining fixtures to guarantee a place in the top four, “I think Arsenal will do their best to win. They have less chance to fight for the title. But I think Man City behind them
is closer. If you arrive third, you don't have to play the preliminary of the Champions League,” added the Cheslea manager.
Chelsea take on Spurs today and stand the chance of pressurizing Manchester United if they secure a win and all three points. The Red Devils on the other hand will travel to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, shortly after which they will be playing Schalke
04 in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final.
