Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed the importance of managing big players and their egos in order to make a winning team. He was speaking ahead of the clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge, and was obviously referring to the striking partnership
of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707.
The Italian manager had previously hinted that he was considering starting the two strikers together, in hopes that they would manage to strike a successful partnership upfront. They have started together three times out of a possible 14, all three times
unsuccessfully.
However, they have all shown an improvement in form recently and Ancelotti is confident they can play together. Torres scored his first goal for the Blues, since his arrival in the January transfer window, against West Ham United last weekend.
Drogba on the other hand, has been in terrific form and even though he did not manage to find the back of the net, he was amazing overall. The 33-year-old Ivory Coast striker’s performance notably improves when he is paired with either http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 or Nicolas
Anelka.
Ancelotti believes the players have a psychological block which prevents them from playing together and is confident once they manage to get past that they will be one of the most feared striking partnerships in the English Premier League.
Ancelotti said while speaking to reporters, “This is psychological. I think that when you speak, you have to put in their mind that the most important thing is the team. The best thing for a player is, obviously, to use the individual abilities of the player
for the team.”
The Italian boss continued, “You can fight against the ego for this reason. The difference between a good player and a top player is this: a top player is a player who is able to give his ability to support the play of the team.”
The Blues boss said the players had to put aside their egos for the betterment of the team and learn to work together. With the end of the season looming closer and just four games remaining, the Blues have a slim chance of retaining the Premier League crown.
They are currently at second place on the Premier League table, six points behind Manchester United, and could win the title if they manage to win their remaining fixtures. However, they will need United to lose at least two of their matches to even up the
points.
The Italian manager will be aware that playing Torres alongside Drogba is a big risk, since he will be changing a winning combination. It remains to be seen what squad the former AC Milan boss finally chooses to face the London rivals.
