Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti urges side to improve before Champions League clash against Manchester United
Chelsea boss, Carlo Ancelotti revealed he felt his side had no chance of winning the Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday against English Premier League leaders, Manchester United, unless they improved drastically. The Blues barely managed a 1-0 win
over Wigan at Stamford Bridge over the weekend, thanks to a goal by French winger, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Florent-Malouda-c13838.
If http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 wishes to make it to the semifinals of the European competition, they will have to defeat Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford in order to overturn the 1-0 defeat they suffered in the first leg at home. The Italian boss admitted he did not see
his side making it past the Premier League giants unless they improved their form in time for the second leg in midweek.
While speaking to reporters Ancelotti said, “We have to play better but this is normal. To win there, we have to play at our 100%.” The Blues manager was certain an uncommitted performance could not guarantee his side a passage into the next stage of the
competition, which is realistically now their only shot at silverware this season.
Going into the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal, the Blues were relying on the fact that they had defeated Manchester United earlier on in the season. The Blues managed a 2-1 win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the Premier League, but
were unable to do the same in the Champions League fixture, as a goal by Rooney saw United take the lead and maintain it for the rest of the game.
Ancelotti was aware his side had not been in the best of forms, which explained their struggle to find goals. The number of chances the Blues have had on goal are simply astonishing, as the strikers’ goal drought continues. The former AC Milan boss said,
“Obviously, we have more difficulty compared to last season to score a lot of goals. We are not able to convert the chances that we create.”
However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 was not the only player Ancelotti was alluding to when he spoke about missed chances. He said, “Every one of us wanted him to score today. Sometimes, he was really unlucky. But I think we have to continue
to have confidence in him. Maybe he will score the most important goals of our season.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786 have not been particularly lucky. Ancelotti will be hoping all that changes when his side travels to Old Trafford for the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals.
