Chelsea boss praises Andy Carroll's potential

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has praised Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll, claiming that the 21-year-old may be someday as good as his own forward, Didier Drogba.

Carroll has enjoyed a good start to the 2010-11 English Premier League season, having netted six goals and set up another two in 11 games so far. He netted a hat-trick in the 6-0 thumping of Aston Villa at St James’ Park and scored the only goal in the 1-0
win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, 7 November.

While Ancelotti believes that Carroll is a talented forward, he thinks that the youngster has a lot of work to do if he is to fulfill his true potential.
'Good in the air'

The Blues boss told The Sun that: "Carroll is a very good striker. He's young and has a chance, working hard, to arrive at the same level as Drogba.

"But they are different players. Drogba has more power and ability to score different kinds of goals, while Carroll is good in the air but has to improve."

Carroll looks to be on the verge of his first call-up to the England national team squad for the upcoming friendly match against France, but as impressive as his performances have been on the pitch, he has also courted controversy in his private life.

He was told to live with Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan as part of his bail conditions following a charge of assault.

An incident at a nightclub in Newcastle resulted in a separate charge of assault, which Carroll admitted. He was fined £1,000 for his actions.

Carroll made his name as a promising young talent when he scored 17 goals in 40 Football League Championship games for the Magpies in the 2009-10 season as they won promotion back to the EPL at the first time of asking.
