Chelsea captain, John Terry speaks in support of goal-less striker, Fernando Torres
Chelsea and England skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, who has still to score his debut goal for the Blues. Torres arrived at Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window for a record breaking fee of
£50 million, but waits to show his worth to the London club.
His arrival seems to have had an adverse effect on the rest of the squad as well; strikers, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are in poor goal scoring form following Torres’ arrival. The Blues recently suffered a loss to Premier League rivals and current
leaders, Manchester United in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
Having been eliminated from the Carling Cup and FA Cup early on in the season, the European Cup is Chelsea’s only chance at silverware this season. The Blues are currently at fourth place in the Premier League table, barely qualifying for next season’s Champions
League, 10 points behind Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
However, the Chelsea captain maintained confidence in the 26-year-old Spanish striker. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 International claimed the World Cup winning striker needed time to adjust to the squad, who is in his third month with the Blues. The weight of expectations
his hefty price tag has placed on him only seemed to have made matters worse. Terry, nonetheless, was confident of Torres’ abilities in proving his critics wrong.
Terry was certain the Spaniard would soon find his goal scoring form, he said while speaking to reporters, “It's just a case of getting that first goal, getting that off your shoulders, and then you can move on. It must be hard as well, people carrying on
talking about it. It must be a big weight to carry as well with the fee that he came for.”
He continued, “But he knows he's good enough to play, the players certainly know he's good enough, and he's got our full support.” Previously http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss Carlo Ancelotti has also gone on to show support for Torres, insisting he was willing to give the troubled
striker as much time as he needed to adjust with the Blues.
Terry insisted everyone at the club was behind Torres, who had to face competition from top strikers for a place in the squad. He said, “Obviously, there's big competition up front and, with guys like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Anelka-c27786, big rivalry. But, at
the same time, they get on brilliantly on and off the field. And I think everyone wants to help him, help him settle in and get that first goal.”
