Chelsea captain John Terry: ‘We're going through a bad spell’
Chelsea FC’s captain John Terry has admitted that his side is going through a bad patch of form in recent weeks. However, the captain is confident that the players will stick together to get the club back to winning ways.
The central defender was talking ahead of Sunday’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in the English Premier League.
Chelsea, who at one time were leading the table by 5 points, have slipped to 3rd place after a series of poor performances. The Blues are without a win in 4 league matches, two of which were defeats against Birmingham
City and Sunderland FC. However, the English champions can regain the top spot in the Premier League if they manage to win all of their 3 upcoming matches.
After travelling to the Spurs on Sunday, the west-Londoners will host bitter rivals Manchester United, before making a trip across town to face Arsenal FC. These crucial matches may prove to be the defining period in the Blues’
season, who are trying to defend their domestic crown.
Terry is aware of the importance of the upcoming matches. He said, “We're going through a bad spell. We need to go on a good run and now would be the perfect time with Tottenham, Man United and Arsenal coming up it would be ideal
for us. We could change things; it's in our hands which is the most encouraging thing from our point of view.”
The 30-year-old, who led his side to their 3rd Premier League title in the 2009-2010 season, says that Chelsea will not let go of their crown without a fight.
He said, “We went three years without winning the Premier League and got it back last year. Believe me the celebrations afterwards and the feeling of getting our hands on that trophy was unbelievable, it was like the first time
we had won the trophy, and players need to realise if we don't start soon we're going to give it away.”
John Terry has also urged his teammates to make this Sunday's trip to Tottenham the start of another strong run of form.
The England international believes that all is not lost for Chelsea and they can still rescue their season if they can manage to pull off positive results against the big sides.
Terry was also looking forward for the return of compatriot Frank Lampard, who is expected to feature against Tottenham after a long injury lay-off. The midfielder has been an instrumental figure in the centre of the park in recent
years, by netting in crucial goals for the Blues.
