Chelsea captain John Terry was at a loss of words to explain his side’s woeful first half performance against Manchester United on Sunday. Chelsea’s 2-1 loss ended their hopes of making the greatest ever comeback in the history of the English Premier League.
The London Blues failed to turn up in the first 45 minutes of the game and a blazing opening to the game saw Manchester united race to a 2-0 lead at half time. The score line at the break could have been much worse for the Blues had it not been for Manchester United’s profligacy in front of goal.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 did however mount a feeble challenge in the second half as Frank Lampard’s close range effort halved the arrears. However, a 2-1 score line is flattering at best, from a game where Chelsea were dominated from start to the end in every department of the game.
The defeat leaves Chelsea 6 points behind the leaders with only 2 games remaining in the season, and has undone all their hard work that had seen them cut down a 1-point gap.
Chelsea conceded straight from the kick off as Javier Hernandez scored just after 37 seconds to put United ahead in the game and the Blues captain struggled to explain why his team were caught wrong footed.
"I'm not sure. We were fully prepared and it's one of those things. Disappointing day but, going back two months, we would've taken this - being in the position. We felt it was in our hands and we could come here and we could win the game." Said John Terry while talking to the club's official TV station last night.
“We came here hoping and praying that we started well and the role was completely reversed. They had a great start and got the early goal, which settled them. But, first half, we didn't deserve anything from the game at all. I thought second half we came out, we had nothing to lose and went for it and dominated the second half." Added the blues captain last night.
The result not only ends Chelsea's bleak hopes of retaining their title but also appears certain to bring a curtain down on Carlo Ancelotti’s reign as the manager of Chelsea, as this is the first time in almost 8 seasons that Chelsea are ending a season without any silverware.
