Chelsea captain John Terry impressed with new manager Andre Villas-Boas
Chelsea and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 revealed he was extremely impressed by the changes new manager Andre Villas-Boas had made since taking over as the manager. The young Portuguese manager replaced Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti, who was sacked at the end
of last season for his failure to deliver silverware in an extremely disappointing season.
Villas-Boas arrives at the London club with a highly impressive CV, having had a terrific season with Portuguese outfit FC Porto. He had a shaky start to the English Premier League season against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, despite a wonderful pre-season.
The Blues went on to win all their fixtures, conceding just one goal on their way to the Barclays Asia Trophy.
Villas-Boas will be looking to revive a Chelsea side that finished runners-up to Manchester United on the Premier League table, and Terry believes the young Portuguese manager has what it takes to return the London side to winning ways. The central defender
revealed he had been extremely impressed by Villas-Boas’ training methods and his attacking mentality.
Terry said while speaking to reporters:
“I have been really impressed with the importance he puts on training sessions.
Usually in pre-season, we just run. But from the very first day, he showed us how he wanted us to play.
He wants us to press, play high up the pitch, putting more pressure onto the opposition.”
The training sessions seemed to have paid off as Chelsea secured all three precious points with a win over West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge. The Blues came from behind to score two goals, which gave them a 2-1 win over a stubborn West Brom side. While
they only managed a draw at Stoke City, this marks an unbeaten start to the new season.
Terry revealed he felt Villas-Boas was appointed by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich as a long-term manager. The previous http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 managers have not managed to last too long at the Bridge, with the Russian billionaire known to sack any managers who fail to
meet his expectations. However, according to Terry the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss looked to be a long-term arrival.
Terry continued:
“It depends on Roman Abramovich. It is obvious that he wants to win the Champions League.
But for the manager, he wants to win the Premier League and the Champions League, that's his objective this season.
Appointments such as Roberto Di Matteo and Steve Holland show that he is thinking about the long term.”
The Chelsea manager appointed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo and Steve Holland in his support staff, which indicates he is could be at the Bridge longer than his predecessors. Terry admitted that the decision ultimately lay with Abramovich, but hoped Villas-Boas could
stay with the Blues in the years to come.
