Chelsea captain John Terry sad to see manager Carlo Ancelotti go
Chelsea skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 admitted the departure of Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season had saddened him greatly.
Ancelotti was sacked moments after the last fixture of the season, an away game at Goodison Park against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043.
The fact that the Blues stumbled to a 1-0 loss was not the reason for his unceremonious sacking, it was the fact that Chelsea had ended the season without any silverware.
It was the Italian manager who had led Chelsea to their first ever domestic double of the English Premier League and the FA Cup.
In achieving the feat, Ancelotti became the first ever foreign manager to do so in his first season at a Premier League club.
The England international admitted Ancelotti was one of the greatest manager’s the London club had had in recent times.
He claimed the Italian had been very supportive and helpful and had played a major role in helping him regain the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 national team.
Terry said while speaking to reporters:
“I was very sad to see Carlo go. He was a great man, a great manager and supported me a lot over the (England) captaincy.
Having done the double for the first time in Chelsea's history, that is something that will live with the club, live with him and the players forever.”
After a terrific start to the season, the London side suffered their worst slump in over 15 years, which made it impossible for the Blues to regain their form.
Even though they did unexpectedly well, presenting league leaders Manchester United with a late challenge.
Unfortunately for Ancelotti and the Blues, the late challenge came too late for them to make something of it.
Terry continued:
“We then pushed Manchester United so close for the title this season after being out of the race realistically for three months and before turning around that form.”
They did however manage to secure a second place finish, guaranteeing them a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Just a place in the European competition next season was not good enough for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 owner and it was his decision to sack the former AC Milan boss.
The Blues defender admitted that most of the players at the club were disappointed to see Ancelotti go but had no say in the decision.
He said:
“I was disappointed to see him go. It's out of the players' hands, it's a club decision, the manager and the players respect that.
But we are looking forward to the new manager coming in and hopefully getting that trophy (the Premier League title) back.”
With a host of managers linked with the Chelsea http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, Terry said the squad was looking forward to a new manager and regaining the Premier League crown.
