Chelsea skipper John Terry has been stripped off the England captaincy and in my opinion should resign from the team as the 2012 Euro’s approach.
Chelsea captain John Terry has been stripped off the England captaincy, for the second time now. The reason: an alleged racism accusation by Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello will pick the Red Devils centre back to replace Terry.
The first time http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Bridge-c36733’s (anyone remember him? Yeah, me neither) ex and as punishment for his public life spewed all over the media, he was removed as the England captain by the Italian manager.
This, in my opinion, has been one of the biggest mistakes Capello has made in his life! Removing Terry as England captain right before the 2012 Euro’s is nothing but murder for the England team and suicide for Capello. Without Terry as captain, the England team is sure to fall apart and their hopes of bringing the European title will amount to nothing as will become apparent when the tournament begins.
Let’s for one second assume there’s a decent replacement for John Terry as captain of England, will they be able to bring the team together and do well in the Euro’s, I don’t think so. The options are limited; http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 player to replace Terry, since that would bring further criticism to his highly questionable move.
As for Ferdinand, a player who fails to show up for a drug test is hardly a good role model for the youth of today, and on those ground alone should be ruled out. That leaves us with another Manchester United player, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736. The striker has been known to lose his temper on important occasions and the high possibility of your skipper being sent off hardly seems like the key to success.
Manchester City goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in one of the most important upcoming tournaments?
Steve Gerrard, a player I greatly respect, is definitely a successful captain at his club but in my opinion lacks the authority to command an international side. Plus, wasn’t he involved in a brawl with a DJ somewhere a few years ago and there were rumours of impregnating an underage girl. What I’m trying to say is, if you look at the player’s personal lives, no one’s perfect.
I strongly believe John Terry should resign from the team, it is shameful the way the team, the supporters and now the manager have treated him. I heard there were rumours that many a players claimed they would not play if Terry remained captain, which is something which could have encouraged Capello’s decision to strip him off the captaincy.
If that is indeed the case then Terry should focus all his energies on Chelsea, a club which respects him and does not strip him off his captaincy after every incident in the media. All else aside, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty, doesn’t the captain of the national team deserve the same treatment as everyone else? If England have abandoned him now then there is no reason he shouldn’t abandon them.
