Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck urges CPO to consider the club’s offer for Stamford Bridge
Bruce Buck, the Chelsea chairman, dismissed reports that claimed the Blues’ attempt to buy the land on which Stamford Bridge is built was the beginnings of a conspiracy. The club has made an offer to Chelsea Pitch Owners to buy the shares, which are mostly
owned by fans, which would allow them to move to a new ground with a much higher seating capacity.
Chelsea’s current home, Stamford Bridge, has a capacity of 42,000 and with most of the top clubs having moved to bigger stadiums; it is no longer able to compete with them in terms of revenues generated. It is for this reason; the management at the London
club is contemplating a move to a stadium with a bigger seating capacity. However, they have not received too good a response from the supporters regarding the possible relocation.
Buck said while speaking to reporters:
“We're just trying to be good business-people here and if an opportunity comes along that makes good sense for Chelsea - and by that I mean the fans and the club and the players - then we want to be in a position to be able to consider it rationally.”
Buck confirmed he was willing to speak to the supporters over the issue, especially since he felt there was some confusion over the offer http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 had made. The Blues’ chairman insisted there was no conspiracy and revealed the club had not yet made a decision
regarding the move as yet. He said they were still considering all the possible options before they made up their mind.
Having already been contacted by some concerned supporters, Buck revealed they had looked into the possibility of expanding the capacity of Stamford Bridge. However, according to the Chelsea chairman there was not much of a chance of expanding the capacity,
which is why the most likely solution would be to move to a new stadium if things went according to plan.
He revealed:
“I try to go into some detail with everyone about how we've looked at Stamford Bridge and how it's difficult to expand the capacity.”
The club have apparently already been approached by developers such as Battersea Nine Elms, Earls Court and White City, but they are yet to decide. Buck encouraged the supporters to approach him if they had any questions and urged them to consider the offer
the club had put forward, since what they were aiming for was beneficial for the club in the long run.
Buck concluded:
“My message to the CPO shareholders is that we would like them to consider the letter I wrote and the documents we sent them and have a proper dialogue and ask me questions - I'm happy to clarify anything - and then vote for what they think is best for
Chelsea Football Club.”
