Bruce Buck, the Chelsea chairman, has revealed he considers the club’s inability to finish in the top four of the Premier League table as unsatisfactory.
After a highly turbulent season, which saw the Blues sack manager Andre Villas-Boas and appoint assistant coach Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea finished at sixth place on the Premier League table. According to Buck this was unacceptable since the London side
were expected to finish in the top four.
The failure to finish in the top four could affect http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo’s chances of securing the manager’s position on a full time basis, especially if he fails to secure the UEFA Champions League trophy against Bayern Munich. Buck revealed the Chelsea owner
Roman Abramovich had vowed to not let a repetition of this season take place.
Buck said in a press conference:
“We do not consider that to be satisfactory and Roman and the board will be working over the summer to try to ensure that doesn't happen again.”
A win against Liverpool in the English Premier League after their win over the Reds in the FA Cup final would have ensured the Blues a chance to finish in the top four at least. Unfortunately for the London side they lost against Kenny Dalglish’s side and
were resigned to finish outside the top three.
He revealed:
“We were all very disappointed with the result on Tuesday night in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
We just couldn't get into the game, and we played to Liverpool's tune. But if we had the choice to win the FA Cup final or Tuesday night's game, I know which one I would have picked. So, in that sense, I am satisfied.”
Buck admitted that while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 had won the FA Cup, it was not enough, since they were now in the UEFA Champions League final. According to the Chelsea chairman the Blues had once before come very close to lifting the European trophy but had failed to do
so. This time around though, Buck felt Chelsea had more going for them and had better chances of winning the Champions League trophy.
Buck continued:
“We came oh-so-close in Moscow. We want to do better this time.”
