Chelsea chief executive on Roberto Di Matteo and Didier Drogba

Ron Gourlay, the Chelsea chief executive, has refused to comment on the future of caretaker manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo, despite the Italian leading the Blues to a FA Cup win.
While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895 commented earlier on Di Matteo’s chances of getting a more permanent position, especially after leading the side to the FA Cup, Gourlay claimed it was too early to make a decision and that they would have to wait until the
end of the season.
Gourlay said in an interview:
“I'm not going to change my mind on what I've said. We've just got to take - the cliched - one game at a time. That's honestly the way that we've treated things.
We've got three games left, we'll see how we finish.”
Gourlay did however admit that Di Matteo had done a terrific http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 since taking over the manager’s position at the London club. He also credited the player’s for their effort and hard work, which had seen them turn a disappointing season around after the departure
of Andre Villas-Boas.
He revealed:
“He's done very well since we brought him in as the interim manager and I think the players have responded particularly well as well, so there's been a good team effort.”
The Blues chief executive also spoke about the future of striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 to hand Chelsea FA Cup glory. Drogba’s contract expires at the end of the season and there has been no new agreement with the club
as yet.
However, Gourlay revealed the club was in talks with the Ivory Coast international and would most likely land a new contract for the future. While Drogba reportedly wants at least a two year contract extension, the Blues are looking to offer just a year’s
extension.
Gourlay continued:
“We're always talking to Didier.
Didier loves Chelsea and we love Didier and we'll continue to have the conversations and we'll see where that goes.”
Gourlay remained confident about the chances of retaining the 34-year-old, who has time and time again reiterated his wish of ending his career at Stamford Bridge.
