Chelsea chief executive to hold talks with Andre Villas-Boas over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 and young players
Ron Gourlay, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 chief executive, revealed he was planning to hold talks with the new Blues manager Andre Villas-Boas over another improved bid for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric and the possibility of sending out some of the youngsters
at the club on loan moves to other sides.
London rivals Tottenham Hotspur have already rejected two bids by Chelsea for the 25-year-old Croatian international. However, the Blues are not as yet prepared to give up and could offer as much as £30 million for the prized midfielder.
While Gourlay claimed he did not wish to speak about Modric, since the Croatian was still a Tottenham Hotspur player, he hinted he would be speaking to Villas-Boas about the issue. The Blues have not yet returned from their tour of Asia, but Gourlay did
not think that would stall talks.
Gourlay said in an interview:
“I don't like talking about players from other clubs, but that's something we'll look at during the week and we'll take it from there.”
Chelsea went on to win all their pre-season fixtures without conceding a single goal and defeated Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the Barclays Asian Trophy final to claim the Asian trophy on their pre-season trophy. The Chelsea chief executive insisted
talking to the Chelsea manager was essential.
He continued:
“We really need to sit down with Andre and talk this through. Even though we've been travelling away you can still be active in the marketplace nowadays.
The communication is always there with our guys back in London or wherever they are at the present time around the world.”
Gourlay also revealed while they planned on keeping all their stars for the upcoming season, they were considering sending some of the youngsters out on loan moves. It was previously thought that Villas-Boas planned to offload and Chelsea would sell their
senior players in the summer transfer window.
However, the Portuguese manager has denied all such claims and revealed that he planned to continue on with all of them. That leaves the inexperienced youngsters, who will most likely be sent out on loan to lesser sides for regular first team experience.
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jeffrey-Bruma-c18265 and goal-keeper Thibaut Courtois have already been sent out on loan and the Blues chief executive revealed there were more players who had to be sent out for more experience. Gourlay revealed he would be consulting with the Chelsea
boss over this issue amongst others before the start of the new season.
Gourlay said:
“The key here is that we have a big, strong squad.
I'd be most disappointed if clubs didn't come in looking at our players.
We will probably look at one or two players who maybe need to go out for development, who need football games.”
