Chelsea confident of regaining form
Chelsea players have reacted strongly to the recent criticism of their form by asserting that they will soon regain form and momentum. According to John Terry and Didier Drogba, this poor form is momentary and Chelsea’s contention for title is far from over.
Chelsea has won just two matches in their last nine games in all competitions and is under intense rebuke from fans and critics alike.
Some pundits have linked Chelsea’s recent slump to the removal of assistant first-team coach Ray Wilkins despite repudiation from Carlo Ancelotti in this regard. The Blues are expected to face Manchester United at the Stamford and Arsenal at the Emirates
in the coming days. But with their current form they are unlikely to trouble both of the giants of the English football.
Commenting on the above scenario, Drogba said, “Obviously these two games are not coming at the right time for us, but maybe these matches will change the situation we're in now if we win them. It's not finished yet. It's a difficult moment for us, but this
is the kind of thing that can happen to many teams and I hope it's going to get better.”
On the other hand, Chelsea skipper Terry is optimistic of his side's chances and is obstinate that his team will not give up until the last match. According to Terry, Chelsea has some of the best players in the world and these players are capable of handling
pressure situations. Despite facing some strong opposition in coming weeks, Terry is hopeful that his team will come victorious at the end of the season.
He said, “We've probably not suffered a blip like this in 11 years at the club and it's obviously hard to take after so many years of winning week after week. Nobody can say they are playing particularly well at the moment so we are not going to be pointing
fingers or digging each other out.”
Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti insists that he still retains the support of Chelsea’s owner Roman Abramovich despite Chelsea’s plummeting form. Chelsea’s manager is under heavy criticism after his side lost way since the Carling Cup exit at the hands of Newcastle.
Former AC Milan boss has been able to grind only two victories against out-of-form Fulham and MSK Zilina in almost a month.
However, Ancelotti said that he has the backing of the owner and has no pressure from the Russian. Ancelotti said, “I don't fear for my job. I feel I have the total support of my players, which is very important. I feel I have the total support from my club.
For these reasons, I don't have fear. I am an optimist that everything will be okay for this season. I spoke with Roman after the [Marseille] game and he gave me total support.”
Ancelotti, who won two Champions League titles with AC Milan, believes that his team has some of the finest talent of the world and is more than capable of staging a comeback. “Easy things are difficult at this moment but we don't have to lose confidence
because we have skill, we have ability and personality to stay and fight for the title”, he said.
Ancelotti also confirmed that Chelsea’s ace midfielder Frank Lampard has recovered form his injury and will soon start for Blues whereas Jose Boswinga is still in the process of making recovery. Ancelotti believes that Lampard will be ready for the crunch
game against Manchester United at home and will be instrumental in lifting Chelsea’s dismal form.
He said, “We need to arrange a game with him, maybe Thursday, and after that I think he will be available against Manchester United. He trained well. He doesn't have a problem to train, everything is okay. It is better to check on Thursday with a friendly
game and after that play against Manchester United.”
