After submitting his transfer request, Chelsea defender Alex revealed he was looking to return to his boyhood club Santos.
Under Andre Villas-Boas, the Brazilian has not enjoyed first team football at Stamford Bridge because of which he handed in a transfer request. The club has accepted his request and the central defender is set to leave the club in the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old understood the decision was not entirely up to him and for him to complete his dream move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Santos-c32532 the club had to show some interest in acquiring his services. Santos have not yet made any enquiries regarding the player.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 said while speaking to reporters:
“My first option will be Santos, but it depends on a lot of things. First, on a proposal from the club, it isn't just my decision.”
While Alex spent his youth career with CA Juventus, he began his senior footballing career with Santos in 2001. He left the club to join Premier League side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven, where he remained until 2007.
According to the defender, it was difficult to secure a move to Brazil because he had a year and a half remaining on his contract. He believed if there was less time he could have manoeuvred a move back to his first club in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858. He continued:
“The biggest problem is that I still have a year-and-a-half on my Chelsea contract, it will be difficult to get released. If I had less time on the contract a return to Brazil would be easier.”
The Brazilian was even prepared for the pay-cut that was bound to follow his exit from Stamford Bridge and claimed he was aware of it. Despite that, Alex revealed he was willing to go back to Brazil where he would remain until his retirement.
Alex revealed:
“I have been aware of it since I asked for the transfer. I know that if I go back to Brazil the salary will not be the same, it will be tough to keep it even close. But that is not an issue for me, players who go back know they will lose out financially.”
