Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic urged his teammates to make a good impression on new boss Andre Villas-Boas.
After a highly disappointing season, the Blues’ preparations for the next season have begun with the appointment of the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss.
The Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti was sacked at the end of the 2010-2011 campaign, after he failed to lead the London club to any silverware.
The fact that Ancelotti had led Chelsea to their first ever double in his first season at the club was ignored and the former AC Milan boss, sacked.
The 33 year old manager Villas-Boas takes charge of the club now and Ivanovic warned the Blues they had to improve if they expected to return to winning ways in the upcoming season.
More than Ancelotti, it was the squad that fell short last season because of which the Blues were unable to secure any trophies.
However, now that they have been given a chance at a new beginning, Ivanovic felt that they should make the most of it.
The 27 year old defender, who was one of the better players for the Blues in the last campaign, said that the entire team was to be held responsible.
According to Ivanovic, it would not be fair to hold just one, or a few players, liable for the team’s inability to secure silverware.
He said in an interview:
“I don't like to speak about me personally and I think every player's success can be judged on what the team does.”
Ivanovic admitted he was proud of the fact that the Blues had managed to maintain a strong defence throughout the entire season.
Even when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 remained strong.
Ivanovic continued:
“You can have a striker who scores 50 goals in one season but if you win nothing it means nothing.
At the same time I am very happy because we were the best defensive team in the league.
I cannot say just the defenders because 11 players defend but this is a good thing for next season, for our confidence.”
He revealed he was looking forward to his side doing better in the new season, Ivanovic continued:
“We know where we made mistakes and I think we will be better and improve in the new season.”
Unlike the other top clubs in the English Premier League, Chelsea have yet to make any new signings.
They have been linked with a host of players, including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857.
