Chelsea defender Paulo Ferreira confident Blues can win EPL
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-Ferreira-c29445, the 32-year-old Portuguese full-back, revealed he was hoping Chelsea would build on their 3-1 win over Birmingham City in mid-week to try and challenge Manchester United for the Premier League title.
The win over Birmingham City gave the Blues the much needed three points, which saw them climb to second place on the Premier League table, six points behind United.
Ferreira was confident his side could close the gap and overtake Manchester United to retain the Premier League Crown. The Portuguese defender said while speaking to reporters, “We did a good game there and we hope to repeat that at home. We are six points
from Manchester United and anything can happen. We have to believe.”
Chelsea went on to win the domestic double, English Premier League and the FA Cup, for the first time in their history last season. While they got off to a brilliant this season, they failed to maintain their form and suffered their worst slump in over 15
years. Under Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, Chelsea seem to be heading towards a trophy-less season, which will be their first since Roman Abramovich took over the club.
The Russian billionaire bought the club in 2003, and after heavy investments, has managed to make the London club into one of the top European sides. However, this will be the most disappointing season unless the Blues manage to retain the Premier League,
which according to Ferreira is possible if Chelsea stay strong.
Ferreira has been at the club since 2004, making this his 7th season at Stamford Bridge. The former Portugal international has made a total of 196 appearances in all competitions and has scored 2 goals. The win over Birmingham City was special
for the defender in more ways than one, since he made his 200th appearance for the club.
However, Ferreira revealed he was not thinking about the number of appearances and was more focused on getting a result. He revealed he was delighted to have won and secured all three points.
The player continued, “I was not thinking about the game personally being my 200th. I was thinking to play a good game and to win and I am happy that happened.”
It was rumored that Ferreira was nearing a Chelsea exit, however, he confirmed he was staying at the club, “Seven years is a long time. I feel happy here and the adaptation was easy for me and of course I feel a bit like part of a Chelsea family. I am pleased
to be here for a long time. I have a lot of good memories and most years we win something.”
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 take on West Ham United over the weekend at Stamford Bridge and will be looking for a win to keep the pressure on Manchester United. Also, the Blues have to win their remaining five fixtures if they wish to have a shot at retaining the title.
