Chelsea duo Frank Lampard and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266 remain positive about English Premier League chances
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 has refused to give up on English Premier League title, insisting the Blues still had a chance to retain the Premier League crown. He admitted it was a long shot and the more realistic target would be a win over
Birmingham City in the mid-week fixture that would allow them to climb to second place in the table, above London rivals Arsenal.
Chelsea is currently at third place on the Premier League table, two points behind second place, Arsenal and eight points behind league leaders, Manchester United. While overtaking the Gunners seems realistic at this stage, especially with their form deteriorating
as was seen against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 over the weekend, the Red Devils are currently out of reach.
After a disappointing elimination from the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals by Manchester United, the Blues bounced back with a win over Roy Hodgson’s West Brom on Saturday. They secured a 3-1 victory, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044, Salomon Kalou, and Frank Lampard
finding the back of the net to give their side a much needed win.
Chelsea takes on Birmingham City now and will be aiming for another impressive win, which will take the pressure of the squad and more importantly the manager. Carlo Ancelotti has come under immense pressure and has faced criticism for his failure to deliver
silverware this season, especially after leading the Blues to their first double in his first season at Stamford Bridge.
With six games remaining, the 32-year-old midfielder was confident anything could happen, especially with a visit to Old Trafford impending. The England international revealed that the last few games of the season were the most important, and a few slip
ups by the Red Devils could very well gift them the domestic league title.
Lampard revealed it was too soon for him to give up on the title, claiming there was still a chance. He said while speaking to reporters, “I wouldn't like to say they are out of reach. It's going to be very difficult. We need to win our games and for them
to lose a couple before we go there to play them. Stranger things have happened.”
Ivory Coast striker, Salomon Kalou, did not let the 3-1 win over West Brom get to him and remained realistic. The 25-year-old forward was aware his side’s chances of retaining the Premier League crown were more dependent on Manchester United’s performances
in the remaining fixtures than anything else.
Kalou said his side had to focus on their own performance and try and win the remaining fixtures, he added, “We know it is not in our hands and if Man U play well and win their games it is over, so we have to continue to win and look forward at the top of
the table. We want to be in the top three because it's very important to finish there.”
The Ivorian urged his side to aim for a top three finish in the English Premier League to guarantee a place in the Champions League next season. Chelsea hosts Birmingham City at Stamford Bridge tomorrow before welcoming West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur,
all must-win fixtures if the Blues wish to remain in the top three of the table.
