Chelsea eye Pep Guardiola as Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement
Chelsea are reported to be in contact with FC Barcelona’s 1st team coach Josep Guardiola as Carlo Ancelotti’s future at The Bridge remains under speculation.
Ancelotti’s men have not been on top of their game in recent matches as they have managed just 1 point in the last 3 English Premier League games. The defeats against Sunderland FC and Birmingham City, and the draw against Newcastle
United at the weekend saw the English champions lose their position at the top of the table to Manchester United.
Some pundits associate the poor results to unrest within the Chelsea camp, after the controversial sacking of assistant coach Raymond Wilkins. It is believed, Ancelotti himself was not happy with the departure of his assistant;
however, he remained calm and did not comment on the matter.
It is no secret, who calls the shots at Chelsea, and the Italian manager maybe feeling a bit hard done by the decisions made in the managerial setup of the club. After the firing of Ray Wilkins, the sporting director at Stamford
Bridge, Frank Arnesen has also announced that he will no longer be a part of the club, at the end of season.
Frank issued a statement, which said, “It is always difficult to take big decisions like this, but it is entirely my decision. I'm looking forward to continuing my work here until such time as the club decides which way they want
to move forward. With that in mind I wanted to make the decision now, giving the club plenty of time to make the necessary plans for the end of the season. I will always be grateful to the club and Chelsea will always be in my heart.”
It has been claimed that Barcelona’s former technical director, Txiki Begiristain will be joining The Blues as Arnesen’s replacement. This news has prompted rumours that link Guardiola to the London club. However, Carlo has dismissed
all speculation about his future and remains focused on his job.
The former AC Milan manager said, “I have heard of Pep Guardiola, to be frank. But you don't have to ask me - the coach is always the last to know. Don't ask me. We are not interested. We focus on our training and our matches."
It will be a sad sight for the Chelsea faithful if the Italian is sacked from his job, given that he guided the Blues to their 3rd English crown and the FA Cup, last season.
