Chelsea falls apart at St James Park
Newcastle ended the hopes of Chelsea to regain the top spot at Barclay’s Premier League after a shameful defeat at St. James Park on Sunday. The game that was more or less thought to be an easy victory for Chelsea ended up in tears for the fans when just
after 6 minutes New Castle United’s Andy Carroll deflected the ball in the net. The goal came as an easy gift due to a silly mistake by the Blue’s defender Alex. The visitors somehow managed to level the score in the second half to avoid embarrassment and
lose 3 vital points for their survival in the race of reaching at the top spot in the league.
The blues have only four points with just one victory in their last 4 league games. This is indeed a huge disappointment for the fans as well as for the player’s morale. However, Chelsea managed to level the score in the second half with kalou’s 45 minute
screamer that resulted in the back of the right corner of the net. It was a huge relief for the Chelsea fans as they did not want to suffer the blow of another defeat in front of a crowd of 46,469 as they were quite close to a third successive defeat of the
league for the first time in 11 years.
There has been a lot of criticism about Chelsea handling the pressure. With the absence of Terry and Lampard, the Chelsea defence seemed restless in keeping Newcastle strikers from trying their luck. Newcastle was undisputed in the first half. A lot of fans
were furious over Chelsea’s performance following the rumours of Ancelotti leaving the club. This was the match through which could lead Chelsea on the first spot again but they failed to do so, and now Manchester United, in the form they are, will be pretty
difficult to catch. Next month’s decider between these two sides can prove to be a title winner but Chelsea has an upper hand as Manchester United still has a tie with Arsenal in the second week of December.
Chelsea had a lot of chances to convert them into goals at St. James’ Park but the injuries proved to be a big concern for them, and now the manager is very keen to keep the players fit both on and off the pitch.
In an interview given to BBC, Drogba demands better performance from his side by saying "That's normal, that's football. We had these moments last year and it is up to us to change things, to get back to scoring goals and not concede.” This statement clearly
shows Drogba’s concern over the side conceding way too many goals as compared to the last season which led Chelsea to lift the cup. No matter what the critics say about Chelsea, it is pretty much evident that the blues would go to the last extent to retain
the glory they had last season.
