Chelsea forward bemoans missed chance against Newcastle United
Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou says he should have done better in his side's English Premier League clash with Newcastle United in order to grab all three points for the defending champions.
The Ivory Coast international netted the equaliser for his side in a 1-1 draw at St James' Park on Sunday 28 November, when he latched onto a pass by Florent Malouda and took the ball past Magpies defender Sol Campbell to score just before half-time. England
international Andy Carroll had given the home side the lead after just six minutes.
The result has left Chelsea two points behind Manchester United at the top of the EPL after they lost three of their last five league games. They have not won in the EPL since the 1-0 victory over Fulham on 10 November.
Kalou missed a good chance towards the end of the match, and had he scored with it, he would have taken his tally for the season to eight goals across all competitions, but he insists that the most important outcome would have been three points for the Stamford
Bridge club.
He told the club's official website: "It's not a personal achievement. The most important thing is to do it for the team. We make it hard for ourselves. We always give away the goal.
“It's something you have to learn from, and every time I do make a mistake on the pitch I try to make it better for the next game. The next game will be better."
Kalou's next chance to add to his EPL tally for the season will come when the Blues face Everton at home on Saturday 4 December. The Toffees are struggling in the league as they are in 16th place, just two points clear of the relegation zone, while they
have won just a single game on their travels in the EPL this term.
