Chelsea get back on track with 2-0 win over London rivals Arsenal
In the featured match of the weekend in the English Premier League, London sides Chelsea and Arsenal didn't disappoint the neutrals as Carlo Ancelotti's Chelsea side came away 2-0 winners in a thoroughly
entertaining affair.
After falling 1-0 to Manchester City the previous weekend, Ancelotti shoed faith in his team by fielding the same side against Arsenal. That same lineup did well and got the result they were looking for
as Chelsea are now four points clear at the top after Manchester United tied Sunderland 0-0. Arsenal now have not won since beating Bolton 4-1 on 11 September.
The match started with a furious pace and saw Arsenal have two good scoring chances early. With the game being played from end to end, the first real test for the keepers came midway through the first
half when Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin struck a half volley toward goal requiring an excellent one-handed diving save from goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Arsenal were playing arguably their best football of the season when Chelsea undid all their good work by breaking through with a goal. Fullback Ashley Cole whipped in a low cross which found striker Didier
Drogba on the edge of the six yard box. The Ivorian was able to make a nifty turn and flick the ball off the post and in with a flick of his heel just six minutes before half time.
Arsenal started the second half pressing toward the Chelsea goal and dominating possession, but it was Chelsea who had the best opportunity at goal when striker Nicolas Anelka managed to dribble past Arsenal
keeper Lukasz Fabianski only to see his shot from 12 yards out hit the side netting.
Moments later Chelsea had a goal disallowed after Ashley Cole put the ball in the back of the net only to have it called back for offside. Chelsea did get a second goal to seal victory five minutes from
time after Arsenal conceded a free kick from 25 yards out. Chelsea defender Alex stepped up and fired a thunderbolt which rocketed past a helpless Fabianski in the Arsenal goal.
Arsenal now find themselves tied for fourth place in the Premier League with West Brom and North London rivals Tottenham all on 11 points from seven matches.
Drogba's sixth goal of the Premier League campaign leaves him tied at the top of the goal scoring race with Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov and Chelsea team-mate Florent Malouda.
